Varsity Boys vs. Scheck Hillel - January 9, 2017

The Varsity Boys were bringing their top performance, and they were able to take the lead quickly. Once they had the lead, they were determined to keep it way from the other team. For example, Kevin St. Fleur had the ball but didn't have an open shot, so he passed it to Keontrei Sims, who did. Unfortunately, they began to lose their grip, and the other team surpassed them.

During the second half of the game, the boys tried to catch up to the other team. They worked hard and played together to take the lead. Eventually, they got the lead back when Deon Curtis and Brian Valcour scored multiple free throws. After that, they stayed alert for the rest of the game, and won 61-56.

The next game is on January 10, 2017. The Junior High Girls will be playing a home game against Somerset Academy Miramar.

Junior Varsity Boys vs. Scheck Hillel - January 9, 2017
The game started off as a race to the lead, since both teams were neck and neck in points. Once the Junior Varsity Boys scored, Scheck Hillel would score the same amount, and constantly tie with each other. The boys tried their best to break the tie and lead their team to victory. Oliver Henry stole the ball from the other team, and Trayvon Etienne kept the ball away from the other team.

By the second half, the other team had begun to take the lead, though the boys were still right behind them. As the game progressed, they were inching closer and closer to the opposing team. The star player of the game was McNee Ulysee, who scored the most points out of the other players. Even though the Junior Varsity Boys ended up losing 43-47, they put in their best efforts throughout the game.

Both teams hurried to score points before the buzzer sounded. The Junior High Girls made it pass the other team when Kennedy Jennings and Treciyah Mitchell scored their free throws. As temperatures drop here in South Florida, we want to make sure that our children are warm when they are in school. However, it is important that all students adhere to the winter wear policy. In keeping with our philosophy to maintain a safe and secure environment, here are the guidelines:

·  Only uniform jackets and sweaters with the NCA seal will be allowed on campus. Hooded jackets are not permitted.

·  Leggings (made of spandex or any other material) are not permitted when worn with a skirt or shorts. However, stockings can be worn
with skirts. Also, girls are permitted to wear khaki pants on chapel days.

·  In cases of extreme cold we encourage each family to ensure that their child is properly layered.

·  White, black, or gray long-sleeved shirts may be worn under uniform shirts.

·  Students may wear a skullcap to school, but it must not be worn in the classroom.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Throughout the game, the Junior High Girls had a great defense against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy. Every chance they got, they tried to block the other team from passing and shooting the ball. Treciyah Mitchell, the star player, even knocked the ball out of the other team's hands and caught it.

Not only that, but their offense was admirable. When they had the ball, they were able to keep it away from the other team. They also showed they had quick reflexes when Kennedy Jennings caught the ball in the air. She then dropped it, but quickly scooped it up again. Overall, the girls did a fantastic job playing, and won 23-3.

The next game is on December 8th. The Junior High Boys will be playing against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy at 4:30 pm.

Varsity Boys vs. La Progresiva Presbyterian School - January 12, 2017

At the beginning of the game, the Varsity Boys blew La Progresiva Presbyterian School out of the water. The boys played with a razor sharp focus to let few mistakes happen. Brian Valcour and Tennyson Morriset blocked the other team's view to keep them from scoring, and Odley Bonhomme kept players away from teammates who had the ball. Throughout the game, the boys were focused and alert to ensure their victory.

As the game went on, the boys became more aggressive to keep the ball away from the other team. Chamberlain St. Jean knocked an opponent down to take the ball away from him, and Deon Curtis knocked the ball out of the other team's hands. Near the end of the game, Terry Tarius got a hold of the ball and shoved another person out of his way. Afterwards, he scored three times back to back, which won the game for the team with a score of 60-17. The team then chanted Terry's name as they proudly left the court.

Junior High Girls vs. Somerset Academy Miramar - January 23, 2017

The Junior High Girls began the game with their minds set on beating Somerset Academy Miramar. The girls played to the best of their abilities to score as many points as possible, and to defeat the other team. For example, Annie Torres scored three points soon after she was called into the game. Even though they played their best, they still weren't able to take the lead just yet.

As the game went on, the girls were still struggling to keep up with the other team. Eventually, when players like Kennedy Jennings and Cyerah Parham scored points, they were able to overtake their opponents. Near the end of the game, the Somerset team began to score more, and both teams were tied. Then, the girls scored more points to gain the lead, but became tied again. As the game was closing out, Treciyah Mitchell and Victoria Footman knocked the ball away from the other team to keep them from scoring. Unfortunately, the Somerset team took the lead back, and ended the game with the score 21-25. Even though they didn't win the game, the Junior High Girls came close and were almost tied. The next game is on January 23, 2017 at 4:30pm. The Junior High Boys will be playing a home game against Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines.

Junior High Boys vs. Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines - January 23, 2017

The game didn't start off too well for the Junior High Boys, and they were slowly falling behind Somerset Academy Pembroke Pines. However, that didn't mean that the boys were ready to give up. They still wanted to catch up to the other team any way they could. The boys did this by using their quick reflexes to make split-second decisions, like when Caleb Dorcinvil tossed the ball from the edge of the court, before being surrounded by the other team. The quick thinking worked for the Junior High Boys, and the ball made it into the net. In addition, Jacquez Aris shot the ball from behind him as he was going out of bounds. The ball then swirled around the ring a couple of times before falling down the net. As the first half of the game came to a close, the Junior High Boys were starting to catch up to the Somerset team.

As the second half of the game rolled in, the boys still tried to get as many points as their opponents. Once a player from Somerset threw the ball and missed, Chris Sykes performed a swift rebound to stop the ball from going back to the other team. When the game ended, however, the boys weren't able to beat the other team, and lost with a score of 16-31. Even though they couldn't beat Somerset in this game, the Junior High Boys were able to use their quick reflexes to play at their absolute best. The next game is on January 23, 2017. The Junior Varsity Boys will be playing a home game against SLAM Academy at 5:30pm.

The Defensive Maneuver

Junior Varsity Boys vs. SLAM Academy - January 23, 2017

The lead for the game began to slip away from the Junior Varsity Boys as time went on. The SLAM Academy team was quickly scoring shot after shot, and were soon ahead of the JV boys. No matter how hard the boys tried, they couldn't quite catch up to the SLAM team. Every time the boys scored, the other team would retaliate by scoring several more times. However, the boys' defense was pretty effective for the most part. Oliver Henry was constantly moving to block the view of his adversary, and Joshua Wilson bumped into the other team to mess up their shot. Keeping up their defense allowed the other team to not score as much. So, when they got the ball and scored, they were slowly catching up to the SLAM team.

During the second half of the game, the boys continued to use their defense against the other team. However, the SLAM team began to work past it, and they scored more and more. With time slowly running out, the JV boys tried to score as many points as they could before the buzzer sounded. When Jerry Mery shot the ball, it went just over the hoop and missed. Isaac Torres responded by catching the ball and pushing it into the hoop. Even though the team played well, it wasn't enough to take the lead, and they lost with a score of 45-63. The next game is on January 23, 2017. The Varsity Boys will be playing a home game against SLAM Academy at 7:00pm.

Varsity Girls vs. Boca Raton Christian School - January 24, 2017

The game began with a slow start, since both the Varsity Girls and Boca Raton Christian School had a hard time scoring points. Both teams seemed to have been equally matched, and it was a while before one gained the upper hand on the other. However, once the girls took a brief time out, they quickly made points and surpassed the Boca Raton team. Zoe Rivas and Stephanie Precieu were continuously shooting the ball into the hoop, which lead their team to rise to the top. Once they had the lead, the girls made sure that the Boca Raton team wouldn't take it away from them. Tania Therlonge and Brianna Augustin had a good defense so that the opposing team would score as little points as possible. As the Boca Raton team was getting closer and closer to taking the lead, the Varsity Girls tightened their grip on it. When the opposing team was pressuring the girls to throw the ball, they took their time so that they wouldn't get distracted.

Near the end of the game, the Varsity Girls were still holding on tightly to the lead. With victory so close, they were going to keep playing until the buzzer sounded. Even though they already had the lead, they were determined to win with as many points as possible. Catherine Dorcinvil scored the ball in at the last second, which lead to the Varsity Girls winning the game with 45-24. This just goes to show that slow and steady wins the race (and game). The next game is on January 24, 2017. The Junior Varsity Boys will be playing a home game against Boca Raton Christian Schoool at 5:30pm.

Junior Varsity Boys vs. Boca Raton Christian School - January 24, 2017

The Junior Varsity Boys wasted no time in this game against Boca Raton Christian School. Right from the start, their goal was to come out of the game as the victors. To make sure that they did, they utilized strategies throughout the game. One of them was to always keep their eyes on the ball and watch where it was going. If players see where the ball is, they can anticipate where it's going. Trey MitchellJonathan Charles, Isaac Torres, and McNee Ulysee intercepted multiple passes because they saw the ball and knew where to be.

Another strategy that the team used was to keep their opponents from scoring. Ryan Tucker and Jerry Mery used their height to block the other team's view. Blocking their view caused them not to score as much, which enabled the JV boys to score more and more. In the end, the boys won with almost double as many points as the Boca Raton team, with the score being 53-26. The next game is on January 24, 2017. The Varsity Boys will be playing a home game against Boca Raton Christian School at 7:00pm.

Varsity Boys vs. Boca Raton Christian School - January 24, 2017

For the Varsity Boys, the game had an easy start. Tennyson Morriset scored the first 3 points for his team, and they were ahead of Boca Raton Christian School. However, as time went on, the Varsity Boys were beginning to fall behind the Boca Raton team. To take the lead again, they played effectively with each other. The times Keontrei Sims didn't have a free shot, he passed it to players like Odley Bonhomme and Brian Valcour, so they could make it in.

During the second half of the game, the boys continued to work together to succeed. Chamberlain St. Jean intercepted a pass between the Boca Raton team, and the ball went to Kevin St. Fleur. Kevin then passed the ball back to Chamberlain, and he dunked it through the hoop. Working as a team allowed them to take the victory with a score of 70-59! They were able to achieve their dream to win because they worked as a team together. The next game is on January 26, 2017. The Junior High Girls will be playing a home game against Avant Grade Academy at 3:30pm.

Dear NCA Family,

Late Wednesday night Mrs. Davis, our Assistant Head of School, was rushed to Jackson North Hospital as she was not feeling well. They performed a procedure to check the condition of her heart. On Thursday morning she had a heart attack. They planned to transport her to Jackson Memorial to have surgery due to the blockage, however, her heart was not healthy enough to survive the transfer, so they waited through the night to see if there would be any improvement. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that Mrs. Davis went home to be with the Lord this morning.

To those of us who are left behind, this is a huge loss. But for Mrs. Davis, she has gained her inheritance in Christ Jesus. In the midst of grief, let us rejoice in the Lord that our sister is now in the ever-loving arms of our Savior.

Please continue to pray for Mr. Davis and their children (Bianca, BJ, and Benton) as they manage through this difficult time.
