Hurricane Matthew

NCA Family,

As you know Safety is our first priority here at Northwest Christian Academy. As such, we have deemed it necessary to CLOSE school for Wednesday, October 5, 2016. School will remain closed indefinitely until we have accessed the situation using the best information available. We believe this will give all constituents of Northwest Christian Academy ample time to prepare their families for impact. This will also give the staff of NCA time to prepare the facility in order to minimize the damage.

The most current and up-to-date information is always found at www.nweagles.org. If school is closed, it will state it on the school webpage first, followed by email and, lastly, text message.

We understand this school closure may inconvenience many of you. However, it is always our policy to err on the side of caution. We appreciate your cooperation in allowing our staff to have time to prepare their homes for the storm.

Note: ALL Wednesday Evening Activities and Services are CANCELLED.

Here are the latest forecasts from NOAA.GOV:

School Resumes on Monday

NCA Family,

School Resumes on Monday, October 10, 2016.

Although we in South Florida have been spared, at the moment, of catastrophic damages and loss of life, this is not the case for our neighboring countries. As the death toll rises in the Caribbean Islands, I ask that you take a moment (if you have not) to offer up a prayer to God for those who are grieving over their loss of loved ones. It's very hard for me to hear these reports as I feel helpless. I am sure there are no words that any of us can offer to someone who has suffered such a loss. However, we can petition the One who has power to provide lasting comfort and this is my request at the moment. I urge all of us who believe in the power of Christ, to take hold of the promises of Scripture:

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. For just as the sufferings of Christ overflow to us, so also through Christ our comfort overflows." - 2 Corinthians 1.3-5

As you know, we have many families with direct ties to these islands and who frequent them regularly. At the time of my writing, I do not know the extent of the loss of any directly tied to our NCA family. In anticipation of Hurricane Matthew's impact on our constituents, I am asking that, upon return to school, we as a school family be prepared to offer financial assistance to support the recovery efforts in the islands. If your individual churches have already begun to mobilize resources, we certainly don't want to take away from what you are already doing. How we will raise these funds and to whom they will go, has yet to be determined. I just ask that we all be prepared to give according to how the Lord leads us.

If you have any personal news to report or if you know of families who have suffered some measure of loss, please reply so that we will be able to pray for you and know how to direct resources.

Basketball All-Stars

Beating Brito Miami Private School 82-19, the Varsity Boys really
showed off their skills. The boys had no trouble gaining the lead
early, which helped them soar past the other team. The Varsity Boys
were proven to be the best when Chamberlain St. Jean made a
jaw-dropping slam dunk.

The boys also had a good defense, as players such as Tennyson Morisset
prevented their opponents from scoring several times. They also
prevented the other team from passing the ball to one another
frequently. Players like Odley Bonhomme were even able to knock the
ball out of the opponents' hands.

In conclusion, the Varsity Boys showed how great they were by playing
at their absolute best. They displayed that they were all champions
and all-stars on the basketball court. The next game is a home game
against Grace Academy International at 6:00 pm.

Helping Hand

The Varsity Boys won against Grace Academy International, 73-17! The game started slowly as both teams struggled to score points. Soon, though, the Varsity Boys made a shot and secured the spot in the lead. As the other team tried to score points, the boys did their best to keep the ball from getting into the opponent's net. For example, player Brian Valcour successfully blocked shots, which helped Keontrei Sims to score from the 3-point line.

The star player of the game was Chamberlain St. Jean. Chamberlain blocked the team multiple times, saved the ball, and even dunked the ball not once, but twice! All the players helped Chamberlain while he had the ball. Tennyson Morisset, for instance, blocked the opponents so they couldn't reach Chamberlain.

The players also tried to help the other team when they could. When Brian and Kevin Roa both knocked a player down, they offered to help him up. In conclusion, the Varsity Boys didn't hesitate to lend a helping hand to each other, and to the other team.

The next game is on December 1, 2016. The Varsity Girls Basketball team will be playing a home game against Archbishop Curley High School at 4:00 pm.

Saved by the Ball

The Junior Varsity Boys won against Dade Christian School 51-41!
The boys were putting in their best efforts from start to finish, and
worked together to lead their team to victory. Throughout the game,
they did the best they could to save the ball. Trey Mitchell blocked
other players to allow Joshua Wilson to steal the ball and save it
from the other team.

Not only did the boys save the ball, but they were also saved by it.
Near the end of the third quarter, Isaac Torres shot the ball from the
three-point range, and made it in just as the buzzer sounded. In the
end, the boys worked hard to win, and to save the ball from the
opposing team.

The next game is on December 6th. The Varsity Girls will be playing
at home against Princeton Christian at 4:30 pm.

The Junior High Boys won against Dade Christian School at home on Dec 2nd, 33-27!
As the game began, the boys were playing great and they gained points with
ease. Staying on top wasn't easy though, since the other team was
soon catching up to them. The boys were persistent, though, and kept the
lead.

In the second half of the game, the boys still held on tight to the
lead. They did whatever they could to stay on top. For instance, Caleb
Dorcinvil shot the ball from the three-point range, and Christopher
Sykes leaped high in the air to keep the ball from the other team.

In the end, the boys grabbed on to the lead and never let go. The next two
games are against Princeton Christian on Tuesday, Dec 6th, with Varsity Girls
playing at 4:30 and Varsity Boys at 6pm.

Rebound Hacks and Quick Pass-Backs

The Varsity Girls lost to Princeton Christian, 24-25, Tues, Dec 6th. In the beginning, the girls were falling behind, which allowed the other team to keep scoring. Eventually, the girls developed a hack, or strategy, to catch up by performing rebounds. When the other team failed to shoot the ball into the net, players like Sydney James and Zoe Rivas quickly swiped the ball and passed it to an open teammate. Because of this, they were able to steal the lead from the other team.

During the second half of the game, the girls didn't perform as many rebounds as before. This was because they had the ball for most of the time. To keep the ball from the other team, they often passed it back to one another. When Tania Therlonge was surrounded, she quickly passed the ball to Catherine Dorcinvil. Catherine then shot the ball, which spun around the hoop a few times before falling through the net.

As the game neared the end, it looked as if the Varsity Girls would win. However, at the last second of the game, Princeton Christian managed to shoot the ball into the hoop, and win by one point. The girls playing still did an amazing job, and their determination will help them in future games.

The next two games are at home on December 7th against Somerset Academy. The Junior High Girls play at 3 pm and the JH Boys at 4 pm.

In the beginning of Tuesday's game, the Varsity Boys wasted no time and
immediately soared past Princeton Christian School. With little
effort, they were way ahead of the other team, and they didn't intend
to let up anytime soon. McNee Ulysse and Kevin Saint-Fleur secured
their team's spot in the lead by shooting several balls from the
three-point range, and Chamberlain St. Jean knocked the ball out of
the other team's grasp and dunked it into the net.

In the second half, the boys' score continued to soar. Even though
they had over 7 times as much as the other team, they were still
adamant about getting as many points as they could. Odley Bonhomme
and Brian Valcour always made sure to shoot the ball whenever the shot
was clear. In the end, they managed to win with a score of 71-19!

The next two games are at home on December 7th against Somerset
Academy.  The Junior High Girls play at 3pm and the JH Boys at 4 pm.

Throughout the game, the Junior High Girls had a great defense against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy. Every chance they got, they tried to block the other team from passing and shooting the ball. Treciyah Mitchell, the star player, even knocked the ball out of the other team's hands and caught it.

Not only that, but their offense was admirable. When they had the ball, they were able to keep it away from the other team. They also showed they had quick reflexes when Kennedy Jennings caught the ball in the air. She then dropped it, but quickly scooped it up again. Overall, the girls did a fantastic job playing, and won 23-3.

The next game is on December 8th. The Junior High Boys will be playing against Holy Cross Lutheran Academy at 4:30 pm.

In the beginning of the game, the Junior High boys were falling behind Holy Cross Lutheran Academy. The boys were putting in their best efforts to take the lead from the other team. Richard Mompoint, the star player of the game, scored the most points and blocked several balls to catch up to the opposing players.

In the second half of the game, the boys were still trying to gain the lead. They tried to get the ball back from the other team by pressuring them. However, they weren't supposed to, and the other team gained a free throw. In the end, the Junior High Boys lost 15-29.
